We (Jeff Nicholas + Sohrob Farudi) have taken a big hit over the past 48hr (1,2) after getting scammed by impersonators on the OpenSea and BAYC Discord servers.

In total, 7 Apes, 4 Dogs, 4 0N1s, 4 World of Women, 1 Cool Cat, and ETH.

While this has been extremely difficult for us and our families, and some of this we will never be able to recover, this isn't all about us right now. The collectors of the stolen NFTs are now victims too. And this is an even bigger issue for us, them and the entire NFT community.

When the scammers transferred all of our NFTs to their anon wallets, they immediately flipped what they could to the highest open bids on OpenSea.  This is how they unlocked the stored value in the NFTs and walked off with ETH. It also means that these collectors thought they got really incredible deals. But there was a catch.

Unbeknownst to them, these collectors purchased stolen NFTs. And while under investigation, can’t be transferred or sold.

This wasn’t their fault, they just had bids in on some great NFTs. But at the end of the day, these buyers are the ones that are actually out the ETH, not us. The total amount of ETH spent by buyers on these stolen NFTs that are now locked was roughly 277 ETH.

The scam hurt us. A lot. And it also hurt the buyers of the stolen NFTs.
